deafening cheers rise to a crescendo
confidence soar as castles in the air
pursuit of smiles handshakes and winks a desperate bid
seeking the chorus not a sad refrain
keeping high the volume of applause
needed insulin lest you descend into despair
fixed on admiration adrenalin there can be no poise without tribute
wine of praise enthused frivolities
bellow like smoke from the piper’s nostrils
though feet on coals and heart on fire
you consent to sorcery embracing treachery
waiting for the maddening cheer
swaying like the reef on the coral shore
addicted to the drumbeat of approval
