From the first breath, which I did not take
From the first cry which was not uttered
A still born baby laid helpless and hapless
A bewildered mum numbed pained by a bridged birth
Whispers and hisses of sorries no celebrations
Now comes the elderly nurse, with eagle eyes
She spanked so hard, this big boy cannot die
Three sneezes and a cry, happy mother and cheering nurses
These were my first moments on the planet
Almost aborted at birth preserved by His hand
I have seen your hands in the delicate details of life
I have heard the voice of your blood from the mercy seat
I heard the voice of many waters from between the cherubims
I beheld your mercies by day and faithfulness by night
I have heard your voice beyond the veil
You have multiplied few grains into basket loads
You dispersed fatal plots and intercepted violent men
You humbled the mighty who laid in wait to assault
You smote the wicked on their cheek bones, toothless
Diviners have gone amok prophets have eaten their words
I have seen you, now and again, Abba’s everlasting arms
The ticking of the clock, seconds, minutes, hours
Days and months, three score years like yesterday
Like a dream, time moves forward like a mirage
As the ever-spinning wheel men journey into the twilight
The ever-smiling timekeeper of the cosmos knows
Beyond the twilight is unending unspeakable glory
